5-Star Food Hygiene Rating

We are delighted to announce that Fylde coast community hospital, Clifton Hospital, has secured a 5-star food hygiene rating for the eighth year in a row.

Clifton Hospital, whose facilities services are managed by Blackpool-based healthcare facilities management company, Atlas, recently marked its 30th Birthday with an afternoon of celebration, which saw patients and staff from years past and present come together to celebrate this momentous achievement. This also coincided with the NHS 70th anniversary.

Atlas’ catering team provides a catering service 365 days of the year, serving over 100,000 meals to patients, staff and visitors each year. Headed up by catering supervisor, Lesley Fegan and her dedicated team of 12, including team leader, Karen Turrell, who is Atlas’ catering apprentice.

Their fully trained, locally-based staff work closely with Clifton Hospital’s nursing staff and dietitians to ensure the right nutrients are provided to keep patients fit and strong during their stay.

Atlas’ Catering Supervisor, Lesley Fegan, said: “We work tirelessly to ensure the catering service at Clifton Hospital is maintained to the highest standards and receiving the top possible rating for food hygiene from Fylde Borough Council is a great triumph for all the team.”

The food hygiene scoring system goes from 0 to 5, with 5 meaning “very good”. Fylde Borough Council inspects every business and organisation that serves food in a large enough capacity including: restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways, schools, hotels, supermarkets and other places food is served.

Lesley added: “Working within a healthcare establishment, patient care is at the top of our agenda. We’re extremely proud to know that our freshly prepared food plays a huge part in Clifton patients’ rehabilitation.

“This year, the hospital’s dining room underwent an upgrade and now supports a fresh new modern look. We have upgraded the facilities and introduced new furniture and a new digital menu screen, that is updated daily. This allows the team to keep the menu, fresh and new throughout the year.

Couple this with the 5* food hygiene rating – we are more than ready to help Clifton Hospital provide the very best in patient care this winter.”
