First impressions matter

Integrating people, place, process and technology – Facilities Management is a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality, comfort, safety and efficiency of the built environment.

A key enabler to the functions that need to happen throughout the journeys of all those who use buildings, Facilities Management is vital to the operability of a facility.

The services under our Facilities Management umbrella, operated at our clients’ sites spanning Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre and North Lancashire are:

Community Building Management

Effective Building Management across our footprint, including the Integrated Care Pathway, allows us to understand a building and its requirements.

This key information feeds into our other business units regarding: SPACE; compliance; operations; minor works and many other activities.

This role ensures integrated working and minimum disruption to tenants, visitors, staff and patients.  Operational Procedures are in place so that users can work safely and that they have a ‘one stop shop’ for all building requirements.

Our Building Managers are integral to the delivery of our soft facilities service, as they are the eyes and ears of an organisation – currently with 29 buildings within their remit.

Community Health Centre Cleaning

First impressions when entering any building, yet alone a healthcare facility is paramount. Our dedicated team of industry trained cleaners know this and keep 18 buildings clean each day to the Department of Health regulatory standards.

They cover demises within many functions both clinical and non-clinical. The team understand the different processes to be followed dependant on the disciplines being undertaken within the space.

With IOSH and COSHH certifications, our domestic teams are able to ensure that our clients’ buildings are safe and aseptic and their work with the Infection Control teams is a fundamental part of the service.

Community Hospital Services

The community are the backbone of who we all are. We all have our own community and to this end can appreciate the importance of this service within healthcare.

A community hospital needs to be warm, friendly and welcoming. It needs to be clean and safe and somewhere to get a cup of coffee, a bite to eat and a chat.

At Clifton Hospital, Atlas offer a fully managed integrated service which mean we look after all none-clinical activities. Ranging from catering, cleaning to non-patient portering.

Catering

Food for thought, we simply cannot live without it. People need food whether for comfort, energy or recovery.

With a 5-Star food hygiene rating, our catering team make over 110,000 in patient meals each year, as well as meals for 1,800 staff and visitors spending time with loved ones at the Fylde Coast’s community hospital, Clifton Hospital, each week.

Our fully-trained staff ensure a range of delicious and healthy meals are available, as well as ensuring that special dietary needs are being met. The team work closely with nursing staff, dietitians and patients to ensure the right nutrients are provided to keep patients as fit and strong as possible, during their stay.

With a client-focused approach to our service, we work closely with our stakeholders to address the needs of the Doctors, Nurses and Health Professionals, who need a well-earned break in the restaurant; a sandwich on the go – or just a cup of tea. Equally for visitors, the ambient restaurant provides a chance to sit down and prepare for a visit with a loved one.

Cleaning

Hospitals are not just created to treat illnesses and diseases; they are also to help a person recover by creating a good environment. The team understand the different processes to be followed dependant on the disciplines being undertaken within the space.

Our domestic teams are monitored through regular auditing and have both IOSH and COSHH certifications. Their work ensures that Clifton Hospital is both safe and aseptic.

Non patient portering and movement of goods

Our Portering and movement of goods service allows us to support our client in many ways, from office moves, to collecting condemned goods.

There are local Porters on site at Clifton Hospital, but also in an around the community buildings.

Support Services

Our Support Service enable our clients to deliver clinical services more efficiently, while improving patient satisfaction and performance.

Waste Management

Our Waste and Support Service is imperative in the management of waste, infection control, environmental issue and sustainability legislation which is driven through by the Department of Health, NHS England and other associated governing bodies.

All legislative directives must be understood, adhered to, communicated and audited within clinical and non-clinical environments, across acute and community buildings.

Atlas’ Waste Management covers all aspects of waste, including:

  • Recycling
  • Hazardous
  • Offensive
  • Clinical
  • Domestic

Uniform Services

When a Nurse is stood by your side taking blood, either in the acute or community environments, there is a good chance that the uniform they are wearing has been ordered, altered and delivered to them by our brilliant and expert staff.

Last year we ensured that over 2,500 clinical and non-clinical staff were dressed in appropriate clothing, depending on the service they deliver. Whether that be a nurse, a district nurse, a cleaner or a medical engineer.

Uniforms provide identity and a pride in an organisation. We are proud and honoured to send workforces out dressed appropriately and to ensure they are recognisable.

Atlas also have responsibility for other support services and various contracts such as Pest Control.

Transport

Non-patient, time critical, clinical transport service

Have you ever wondered how your blood, or samples get from A to B, or your medical records arrive with the right Consultant?

Our transport team deliver a non-patient, time critical, clinical transport service. They staff are fully trained and comply to the relevant legislation.

A team of 15 skilled drivers travel over 260,000 miles each year across Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre and North Lancashire, including Lancaster, Morecambe and Cumbria. They transport tens of thousands of clinical items each year – ranging from histology and pathology specimens, to medical records and radioactive materials.

As a clinician, or patient, this service is vital as it involves the movement of goods and sensitive personal data which contribute toward diagnosis and subsequent treatment of patients.

Because of the valued nature of our cargo, our staff follow strict guidelines and are advanced drivers.

Using a specialist web-based system, our drivers can keep in touch at all times. The routes that they take each day are tracked not only to ensure the safe delivery of goods, but also to support the wellbeing of our drivers – as they tackle the busy transport infrastructure across our footprint.
